New Pleasure
We all know the critical importance of living within the limits of the planet, and that the human economy is ultimately a subset of ecology. Models such as ‘Donut Economics’ are gaining more attention, based on systems that meet the needs of all people fairly – within planetary boundaries. We need to embrace and celebrate simplicity as part of reducing material pressures. This will require a much fairer redistribution of wealth and opportunity.
But, as well as what we need less of, what new pleasures, rituals, or abundance, could we imagine that are not material based, or that do not tread heavily upon the earth? How might these pleasures, or rituals surrounding them, help rebuild a sense of meaning and joy in life? What new forms of hedonism can you imagine?
