    About me

David Holyoake - photo by Isabelle Francaix

David Holyoake is a composer represented as an Associate Artist of the Australian Music Centre, now living between Lisbon Portugal and Brussels Belgium. A published composer originally focussing on contemporary and new classical music, he has recently branched into film scoring, returning to study and graduating with high marks from the Film Scoring post-graduate degree programme at Portugal’s National Academy of Advanced Orchestral Studies, in collaboration with Metropolitana orchestra. He also holds a Bachelor of Creative Arts from University of Melbourne, and as a pianist – performance diplomas from AMEB and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. David has collaborated with some leading musicians and choreographers, has had his music performed in leading venues such as Rich Mix London, and FairFields Halls London, and was 1 of 10 emerging Australian composers featured in “Now Hear This”, the first ever sound-only exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria.

David now works in a variety of styles, as required for a given project, but his music is often characterised by visual intensity, wide emotional range, strong narrative development, and exploring new sound palettes to tap the ancient instinct of music as magic.  He has been commissioned to create original scores for contemporary dance and theatre productions, short films, and received grant awards from Arts Council England and the Belgian Ministry for Culture for both personal projects and in support of arts-science collaborations with an environmental focus. He won second prize for piano composition at the Keys Australian Music Competition, and his music has been heard on ABC Classic FM, and appeared on Move Records Label.
